And i used SkillBridge with a small contractor; command approval took about 60 days (paperwork moves slower than a Monday PT run), so start your package early and verify the MOU at https://skillbridge.osd.mil. For federal roles, VRA got me interviews faster on USAJOBS when I emailed the HR contact with β€œVRA eligible,” but some offices won’t use it β€” have a non-federal Plan B; anyone tried @SamP’s informational-call route?

I had better luck with VRA by bypassing USAJOBS and emailing the hiring office’s HR with β€œrequest VRA non‑competitive consideration” in the subject, plus my DD214 and VA letter; it cut my wait from weeks to days. If they’re unsure, I send the OPM VRA page (https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/hiring-information/competitive-hiring/veterans-authorities/) as proof, but some offices will still insist on a posting.
