Navigating Job Interviews Post-Service

Transitioning from military to civilian employment can be tough, especially when it comes to job interviews. I’ve seen many veterans struggle with articulating their experiences in a way that resonates with potential employers. If anyone has tips or personal experiences to share about navigating these conversations, I think it could really help others in our community.

I’ve found that using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) helps in clearly framing my military experiences for civilian interviews. For instance, when I explained leading a team in a high-pressure situation, it really resonated with employers looking for leadership skills. Just remember to keep it relevant to the job you’re applying for, as some experiences may not translate as well.

I totally get that struggle. When I transitioned, I practiced answering questions using real-life scenarios from my service, which helped me connect my experiences to the job requirements. It’s kind of like explaining how a well-placed strategy in a game leads to victory — just gotta relate it to civilian roles. @carlson_jane87, have you tried this approach?
